AASK-Sibling Program [Referral]

AASK is a non- profit agency founded in 1988 to help children in foster care with special needs, but it soon expanded to every child in foster care with the vision to ensure every child has someone who cares. There are approximately 17,000 children in the Arizona foster care system with 2,300 adoptions with the help of AASK. AASK vision is implemented through our Adoption, Fostering, Mentoring, and Sibling Programs.
Keeping sibling relationships for these children is crucial. Siblings form a bond that cannot be replaced. They provide emotional support for each other, stability, and comfort in times of change. Research shows when children are separated from each other they may feel like they lose a part of themselves.
The AASK Sibling Program launched its first year in 2014 by hosting a week long Sibling camp at Camp Tontozona followed by bowling and skating events. This year we will be hosting an event once a month at various venues. We have all the children ready to go to start being reconnected, but we do not have enough volunteers yet to help with the transportation and supervision of these events, so we really appreciate your interest. As a volunteer, you would only need to commit to 4 out of 12 of the events and the week long camp is optional. The volunteer will pick up a sibling and bring them to the event and will facilitate them and their siblings reconnecting with each other.
