Make a Difference Day- Conservation Alliance Invasive Species Removal (Referral)

Help us help our native flora! Volunteers will assist Park Rangers in removing non-native buffelgrass, fountain grass, and papyrus grass from the low flow channel in the restoration area. Non-native grasses often form dense stands and compete with native species, especially perennial grasses and seasonal annuals, for space, water, and nutrients. Competition for water, dense roots and ground shading can weaken and kill larger desert plants and prevent the germination of native seed. Thick stands of non-native grasses also create a lot of fuel for fire which Sonoran Desert plants are not adapted to. A single buffelgrass fire kills nearly all native plants in its path! This is tough work—come prepared to work in very shallow water (<1 inch) and for manual pulling and digging. Beverages and snacks will be provided, but bring your refillable water bottle too!
