Playground Building with TM Kids (Referral)

More than 200 volunteers from Berkadia (@Berkadia), TM Kids (@tmkidsaz), organizers from KaBOOM! (@kaboom) and residents of the Phoenix community will join forces on Thursday, October 23, to give area kids the childhood they deserve by building a new playground at TM Kids. The design is based on children’s drawings created at a special design event in August. This playground will be available to the daycare and the surrounding community (serving low-income families). Volunteers are needed to help build and construct the playground for the children. Minimum age for volunteers is 18 years old. Breakfast, lunch, and a t-shirt will be provided.

WHY:

A playground is more than a playground. It’s a brain-expander, friend-maker, and muscle-builder. Play is central to a child’s ability to grow into a productive adult. It can transform children from sedentary, bored and solitary to physically, mentally and socially active. KaBOOM! works to bring balanced and active play into the daily lives of all children, particularly those growing up in poverty in America. We do this by creating great places to play, inspiring communities to promote and support play and driving the national discussion about the importance of play in fostering healthy and productive lives (#playmatters).

The new playground will bring more than 700 kids in Phoenix one step closer to having the childhood they deserve. Currently, there are two open areas the kids use to play and it would be a blessing to provide them with a playground. Located at TM Kids, the new playground will be accessible to families that walk from the trailer park and apartment complexes nearby. A playground area will be a special treat to this community and it will provide kids the outdoor play they need to thrive.

The playground is the second built by Berkadia and KaBOOM!. Through this partnership, more children will have the joyful childhood they deserve. Berkadia supports KaBOOM! in promoting and protecting a child’s right to active play at home, at school and in the community.
