Opportunity Details

Jumpstart Corps Member (Referral)

Jumpstart is a national early education organization that recruits and trains college students and community members to serve preschool children. We are a supplemental language and literacy program that operates in a designated preschool classroom using our research based curriculum led by the classroom teachers and recruited volunteers.

A Jumpstart session occurs in the classroom 2 days a week for 2 hours each day. During that time, a team of 3-4 volunteers, led by the teacher, will implement the Jumpstart session. Jumpstart focuses on skills and domains related to language and literacy and the program implements activities that help advance these skills. Partnership with Mesa Community College In partnership with Mesa Community College, teachers* in a Jumpstart classroom will enroll in a 1-credit, 80 hour internship class. The class may be used for coursework related to a degree program or as an elective. Additionally, the course may be used for 15 hours of professional development.

This unique course offers professional feedback from the university professor, weekly meetings and check-ins on progress with university and Jumpstart staff, and the opportunity to grow professionally, without ever having to leave the classroom! *volunteers may also enroll in the course and receive college credit
