Opportunity Details

Trailblazing at South Mountain Park

South Mountain Park is one of the largest urban parks in North America. Designated as a Phoenix Point of Pride, the park is a preserve of over 25 miles of native desert vegetation and landscape. It features over 50 miles of trails for cycling, hiking, and horseback riding throughout its beautiful scenery, and is home to over 300 plant species and 150 animal species.

We are looking for outdoorsy volunteers that can assist the park with ongoing projects to restore and preserve its beauty. Duties such as tree trimming, general clean-up, and maintenance will occur park-wide. Individual lookouts will be in need of graffiti removal and trash pick-up as needed. The trailheads may also require some light trimming and painting as determined by park staff.

Please wear closed-toe shoes. Sunscreen, hats, and long sleeves/pants are recommended. Please bring your reusable water bottle and any allergy medications you may need!

Responsible children over the age of 6 are welcome with a parent or guardian. Volunteers ages 16 and 17 may attend without a parent/guardian, but MUST bring a Youth Waiver signed by a parent or guardian, to each project.

Disclaimer: Activities vary and may not be known in advance. During trash pickup, it is possible to find alcohol/drug paraphernalia. Please use caution when supervising your children. Wear gloves and use a grabber to pick up unsanitary items.

If you would like to register your child, please email the opportunity coordinator listed below and ask to reserve a guest slot. Please note, volunteers 13 years or older can create their own HandsOn account and sign up for opportunities directly (activation fee is not applicable for those under the age of 16).
