WANTED: Volunteer Seed Librarian! (Referral)
Friday Seed Librarians are the faces of our new Seed Library! We're looking for energetic, passionate volunteers to help get the word out and engage our clients. Volunteer responsibilities include: · Setting up table and signage before clients enter. · Greeting clients and making exploring the library friendly and easy. · Educating clients - Talk It Up! · Helping clients select seeds that they can grow soon, either in a house or an apartment. · Repackaging seeds, as needed. · Recording client contact information and checkout items accurately. · Screening incoming donations for quality. · Checking donations into the system. An excellent candidate will be: · Friendly! Has a smile almost plastered on their face. · Passionate! Do we have to stop you from talking about seeds, gardening, or the benefits of growing food? YES! · Able to keep control of a busy area, redirecting non-participating clients to the next table, keeping the processes moving. · Available. Has room in regular schedule to volunteer 5 hours per week, every other week, or monthly, on a fixed schedule, vacations not withstanding. · Committed. Ready to take ownership in a long-term role – doesn’t need to be forever, but wouldn’t mind hanging out with us for 6 months or more. Optional skills (not required): · Maricopa county gardening experience, or similar climate. YES! · Indoor or patio gardener? YES! · Master Gardener or Master Gardener Intern? YES! · Student of local gardening classes, agriculture programs, sustainability? YES! · Has a large volume of orange clothing and accessories for September’s Hunger Awareness Month · Has a supply of magic beans Perks: · Knowing your work is enormously valuable to each and every person you speak to.
