Help Our Gardens Grow (Referral)
Many low-income families and seniors in Phoenix struggle to afford fresh, nutritious food on a limited budget. Furthering the problem, low-income housing projects are typically located in "food deserts"-areas lacking in fresh produce and nutritious options. As a solution, community gardens have been created at two of our City of Phoenix housing projects: Sidney P. Osborn, a housing complex with low-income individuals and families, and Washington Manor, a low-income senior housing complex. Unfortunately, resident gardeners are struggling to keep up with garden maintenance and are in need of volunteers to assist with weeding, planting, watering, and other duties. Your work in the gardens directly gives back to the community-everything grown is offered to residents for free! The following dates are available for volunteers: July 9: 7:00am-10:00am (Sidney P. Osborn - 1720 E. Adams St, Phoenix, AZ 85034) July 16: 6:30am-10:00am (Washington Manor - 1123 E. Monroe St, Phoenix, AZ 85034) July 23: 7:00am-9:00am (Sidney P. Osborn) July 30: 7:00am-9:00am (Washington Manor) August 6: 7:00am-9:00am (Sidney P. Osborn) August 13: 7:00am-9:00am (Washington Manor)
