The objective of Science Thursdays at the YMCA is to help children (K-5th grade) enrolled in our after school programs engage in and develop positive attitudes toward STEM learning and career opportunities. One STEM related activity is implemented each week. Activities selected are dispersed among all STEM areas, have a total duration of approximately one hour, be age appropriate, and have a total material cost of fifty cents or less. Examples of activities include: creating balloon rockets and building pulleys. Volunteers assist the group facilitator by helping school-aged children with hands-on science projects.
