Refugee Artisan Mentor (Referral)
Intro
Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest is seeking artisan mentors for their Women's Empowerment Program. Volunteers will guide refugee women in developing craft and business skills, empowering them to sell handmade products and gain financial independence.
Volunteer Mentors will play a key role in fostering confidence, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit. This opportunity offers a meaningful way to support refugee women and make a lasting impact. Volunteer Mentee Details
Date and Time: Friday to deliver materials to Refugee Artisans. There can be flexibility for scheduling check-ins with Refugee Artisans.
Location: LSS-SW office / remote
Role of Volunteer:
- Materials Delivery: Visiting assigned artisans to deliver supplies like fabric, tools, or packaging materials. Ensuring they have everything needed to continue their work.
- Check-In: Scheduling bi-weekly virtual or in-person meetings to discuss progress, identifying challenges, and set goals. Providing constructive feedback and tracking development.
- Product Design & Marketing Advice: Helping artisans refine their products, offering advice on design improvements, branding, and marketability. Supporting them in creating promotional content and exploring sales platforms.
- Support: Offering emotional support, encouragement, and guidance to boost artisans' confidence and skills. Helping them stay motivated to reach their potential.
- Feedback: Regularly submitting detailed reports on artisans’ progress, challenges, and milestones to the program coordinator, ensuring that support is aligned with their development needs.
Time Commitment: Flexible shifts, with a commitment of 2-4 hours every two weeks. We understand life is busy, so shifts can be adjusted to fit your availability, whether in-person or virtual.
Requirements:
- No sewing or artisan skills required. A willingness to learn, adapt, and walk alongside refugee women as they navigate their journey toward independence is key. Your flexibility and transparency are valued as we work together to empower the artisans.
- Training will be provided, and a fingerprint clearance card is required for all volunteers.
