Summer STEM Academy
There are over 4 million available jobs in science and technology. However, millions of kids can't compete for them because they lack access to technolgy and educational resources-- leaving too many kids behind. Verizon Innovative Learning believes technology has the power to help people lead better lives, solve problems in new ways and create lasting value. By sponsoring the learning tools for a Summer STEM Academy at Moon Mountain Elementary, Verizon is making technology and immersive, hands-on learning experiences available to local students in need. Students who participate in this summer camp will be given a great opportunity to see the world of possibilities that await them. That's where YOU come in! We need lifelong learners to volunteer for 4 hours, during at least one day of the camp. No teaching or tech background is required. You will assist a classroom teacher in managing the learning tools and coaching a small group of students as they solve problems and innovate. When you arrive, we will match you with 3rd-6th grade students in one of four tracks: Robotics and Coding, K'Nex Renewable Energy, BrickLAB Engineering, or Forensics Investigation. An orientation webinar will be conducted on Tues., May 30th (10:30-11:45am). A recording of this webinar will be made available to those who can't join us, in order to complete it prior to camp. Contact the project leader (below) with questions, or use your HandsOn account to sign up! Once you register, you will receive project details and a separate invitation to schedule a 20-minute phone interview. WE ARE AWARE THAT THE SYSTEM WAS BLOCKING NEW REGISTRANTS FROM CREATING AN ACCOUNT ON THURSDAY AND WE HAVE A TROUBLE TICKET SUBMITTED. IN THE MEANTIME, EMAIL MIKE (BELOW) YOUR PHONE # & WHICH DAY(S) YOU WOULD LIKE TO SERVE, AND HE WILL ADD YOU TO THE OPPORTUNITY MANUALLY.
