Sewing Machine Repairs/Servicing (Referral)
Opportunity Description:
Are you handy with a sewing machine and love giving back? Knots for NICU is seeking a volunteer sewing machine repair expert to help maintain and repair donated machines used to create handcrafted comfort items for premature babies and their families in Neonatal Intensive Care Units.
We depend on our sewing machines to empower youth volunteers who crochet hats and headbands, and sew blankets, bonding hearts and burial gowns for babies in the NICU. Your skills will ensure these machines stay in top shape, so our mission can continue without interruption!
Responsibilities:
- Inspect and troubleshoot basic to intermediate sewing machine issues
- Perform routine maintenance (cleaning, oiling, tension adjustment, etc.)
- Repair or replace small parts as needed (reimbursed supplies)
- (Optional) Help assess new donated machines for usability
Time Commitment:
Flexible hours based on your availability. Most repairs can be done on your schedule. We currently have 3 machines needing service and anticipate service repairs needed a few times per year.
Location:
Local to Chandler, AZ, or willing to work with our team for machine drop-off/pickup coordination.
Skills Needed:
- Experience repairing or maintaining domestic sewing machines
- Basic mechanical skills
- Patience and attention to detail
- Reliable and communicative
- (Optional but helpful) Experience working with nonprofits or youth programs
