Help Seniors With YMCA OPAS! Any Day & Valley Wide (Referral)
YMCA Outreach Program for Aging Seniors
The YMCA's Outreach Program for Aging Seniors (Y-OPAS) is a community effort, offering free support to seniors (65+) in need. Services are provided by wonderful volunteers. The mission of Y-OPAS is to enable seniors to maintain independent living in their own homes as long as possible.
After starting in Ahwatukee in 2001, Y-OPAS expanded in 2023 to also serve both Scottsdale Paradise Valley and the Southwest Valley. Volunteers have the flexibility to choose their role, to sign up any day or time of the week, and as often as desired, with each service typically lasting around 1.5 - 2.5 hours. The 65+ population is the fastest growing demographic both nationally and locally in Arizona, and we need YOU!
How can you help?
- Provide transportation to and from appointments
- Grocery shopping and errands with or for clients
- Friendly connections – spend time with clients in person or via phone
- Social Planning & Events (Luncheons, Art Classes, Dominos, etc..)
- Paperwork & Tech Assistance
- Minor Handyman Assistance
- and more!
What are the Requirements to Volunteer?
- 21 years and older
- Complete the New Volunteer Orientation
- Pass a Background Check and Motor Vehicle Records Check if providing transportation
- Have a Valid Driver's License, Auto Insurance, and a Reliable Vehicle.
