✨Youth Give Back Bash✨: Mesa Urban Farm Garden Harvest

Join us for HandsOn's Give Back Bash- one week of youth friendly volunteer opportunities just for families looking to serve together this summer!
Monday through Friday, June 15th - 19th, we invite families with kids as young as 8 years old to attend one or all five of our featured volunteer opportunities. Whether you want to spend one day giving back, or deepen your impact by participating in all five events, we would love to have you join us! Each event will also involve an educational component to teach youth about the issues our community faces, the work being done to solve them, and how we can come together to make change.
If you are an adult without children looking for volunteer opportunities, please do not register for this event. The Youth Give Back Bash is reserved for youth and families.
DAY FIVE: Mesa Urban Farm Garden Harvest
The 3,000 square-foot Mesa Urban Farm provides about 500lbs of fresh produce monthly for St. Vincent de Paul's Mesa Dining Room. Spend the morning of Juneteenth enjoying quality family time in the Mesa garden. Learn about gardening and growing food while completing volunteer duties like planting seeds, painting seed markers, gathering pollinator flower seeds from wildflowers, weeding, watering, harvesting fruits and vegetables, composting, and feeding worm beds!
Please wear closed-toe shoes, and wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. We recommend bringing SPF and a reusable water bottle. There are shade structures, but be prepared to be in the sun. An air-conditioned area is available if you need to cool off!
Please note, the dining room is adjacent to the farm. Clients who enjoy St. Vincent's daily meal services may be present on site, many of whom are unsheltered.
The minimum age for this volunteer opportunity is 8 with a parent or guardian. All Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Volunteers ages 16 and 17 who aren't attending a project with a parent/guardian MUST bring a Youth Waiver signed by a parent or guardian. If you would like to register your child, please email the opportunity coordinator listed below and ask to reserve a guest slot. Please note, volunteers 13 years or older can create their own HandsOn account and sign up for opportunities directly (activation fee is not applicable for those under the age of 16).
